The client uses the Proportional Reading Software Program on a computer, somewhere far away or even in the same town. As he or she works on the computer, the consultant is watching the same text on his screen miles away. Both the student and the consultant talk on the telephone, as the student works. They could be Skyping, continents apart. At any event the consultant sees exactly which phrase the student is working on and provides help as needed in the form of clues. Just enough help so the student feels he or she has had a major part in getting the phrase read correctly. The speakers connected to the computer sound out the text when the student is ready and gives the signal to the computer. The consultant can hear this reading at his end.

This is just like two people were sitting side by side, but they may have never seen a picture of the other. No money has to be spent on day care, transportation or travel/lodging. Just these savings alone amount to far more than the sessions cost.

The consultant usually works with the client once or twice a week, as needed. Sessions work out usually to be 40 minutes for children and an hour for adults.
